About

Hopefully you will find this website useful, I have tried to make it as functional as possible so that you can quickly go to the category that you are interested in and browse the available recipes.

Please be aware that if you cannot find what you are looking for today then it may be on this site tomorrow or next week/month. I am intending to keep adding recipes and expanding this site until I run out of space, energy or recipes.

There is a story behind this website that I would like to share; if you are interested then please read on.

A few years ago, I lost my wife to a brain tumour, I won’t go into details but this was devastating for our family, a loss that I don’t think we will ever fully recover from.

A short time after this I received a text from my brother containing a link to a book by Chris van Tulleken; Ultra-Processed People. My brother had been to see his doctor to discuss his newly diagnosed diabetes and his doctor had recommended this book during a discussion on diet. As I was pre-diabetic at the time my brother thought it would be useful reading for me.

Thanks Bro – a real eye opener.

I read the book, started to think about UPF’s for the first time and thought about my wife. Unlike me, she wasn’t much of a tea drinker, she preferred to drink pop. In particular diet supermarket cola and diet ginger beer. Her two favourite drinks. She would probably get through a 2 litre bottle every day.

Both of these drinks contain aspartame, an artificial, chemical sweetener. Of course as soon as I thought about this I had to browse the internet and look for links between aspartame and glioblastoma.

The World Health Organization’s cancer research agency (IARC) classified aspartame as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2B) in 2023, this designation indicates “limited evidence” of a potential link, not a confirmed risk. There is a lot of information ‘out there’ on this subject, one report claiming that there is no link and another claiming an increased risk of all sorts of cancers. It is a very confusing, inconclusive, minefield of information.

I will of course never be able to prove it but I can’t help linking the amount of aspartame that my wife consumed with the glioblastoma’s that ultimately killed her.

I can’t change what happened and I doubt that anything that I do will have any effect on the big corporations getting rich by filling our food with unhealthy and possibly addictive chemicals. But I can create a website filled with recipes that anyone can use to create their own meals free of UPF’s.

For you Marg
